Proofreader-Author Contract

1. Scope of Work
1.1 The Author hereby engages the Proofreader to provide proofreading services for the Author's [Type of Work, e.g., manuscript, article, report] titled "[Title of Work]" (the "Work").
1.2 The Proofreader agrees to review and correct errors related to grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax, and consistency in the Work, but does not assume responsibility for substantive editing or content development.
1.3 If the Author requires additional editing and/or formatting services beyond proofreading, the parties shall agree upon the scope of these services and the associated fees in writing.
2. Compensation
2.1 The Author shall pay the Proofreader the agreed-upon fee of $0.02 per word for the proofreading services. Payment shall be made as follows:
50% upfront, 50% upon completion
Payment shall be made within 15 days of the Proofreader's completion of the Work.
2.2 In the event the Author requests additional editing and/or formatting services, both parties shall agree upon the additional compensation in writing.
3. Timeline
3.1 The Proofreader agrees to complete the proofreading of the Work within [Specify Timeline, e.g., 14 days] from the Effective Date unless otherwise agreed upon in writing.
4. Communication
4.1 Both parties agree to maintain open and timely communication throughout the proofreading process. The Proofreader shall provide feedback and revisions promptly.
5. Copyright and Confidentiality
5.1 The Proofreader acknowledges that the Work is the intellectual property of the Author, and any changes made during proofreading, editing, or formatting do not transfer ownership or rights to the Proofreader.
5.2 The Author agrees not to disclose any confidential information shared by the Proofreader during the course of the proofreading, editing, or formatting project.
6. Revisions
6.1 If the Author identifies errors or omissions in the Work after receiving the proofread, edited, or formatted version, the Author may request revisions within 10 days of receiving the Work. The Proofreader shall make reasonable efforts to address these revisions promptly.
7. Termination
7.1 Either party may terminate this Contract with written notice to the other party if the other party breaches any material term of this Contract.
7.2 In the event of termination, the Author shall pay the Proofreader for services rendered up to the date of termination, including any additional editing and/or formatting services agreed upon.
